MATERIAL SAFETY DATA
SHEET (MSDS)
All personnel handling the products, liquids and other
substances within a fuel company should be aware of the characteristics of
these materials. Material safety data
sheets or equivalent shall be made available for all personnel in order to
follow the procedures and precautions in case of eye and skin contact,
ingestion or aspiration of liquids or excessive exposure to vapours.
Material Safety Data
Sheets give information about as follows;
- What protection must the employer provide when workers use the product?
- How do you handle the product safely?
- Is there a danger when the product combines with other chemicals?
- In the case of an accidental spill or release, what should be done?
- What chemicals are in the product?
- What is the maximum amount of each chemical you can legally be exposed to? (Permissible exposure limit or PEL)
- Is the product a fire or explotion hazard?
- How does it enter your body?
- How can it affect your health in the short term and long term?
